The video of an elderly woman being tortured in Sialkot over an alleged land dispute went viral on social media on Sunday.

The video which was shared widely on Twitter shows a woman being dragged by her hair on a street by a man. He is later joined by women who brutally beat the victim with shoes and sticks.

According to a report in Geo News, the police has registered a case against 15 suspects, out of which nine people including four women have been arrested.

The incident took place over a land that the victim has had for “the last 13 years.” Talking to the media outlet, she said that the people banged on her house door and forcefully dragged her outside and tortured her on the public square.

Social media users have called on the government to take notice of the torture.

""Inhumane incident":In Sialkot Kotli Syed Amir area, footage of an elderly woman being grabbed by her hair and tortured came to light. Where is Government Officials?" wrote a user on Twitter.

Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the incident and has ordered immediate action against the perpetrators.

This isn’t the first time an incident of torture has taken place in Sialkot. Last month, a Sri Lankan factory manager Priyantha Kumara was tortured to death by a mob over blasphemy allegations.

“You know there’s something extremely wrong with #Sialkot and that’s humanity has passed on in this particular area. Shame on all those who earn so much capital through this city’s manufacturing and don’t invest in humanism,” said a Twitter user.
