Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, many people began moving to safer ground, but one young couple had other ideas. Yaryna, 21 and Sviastoslave, 22 decided to move their wedding up and get married on Thursday night.

Their wedding was originally planned for May but the couple tied the knot at the beautiful Saint Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery.

One may have expected the newlyweds would journey to Poland or other safe pastures for their honeymoon but this was not the case.

Just a day later, Yaryna posted a picture on her personal Facebook, posing with her new husband, Sviastoslave and their government issued AK-47s as they decided to stay back and fight for the Ukrainian government.

Such examples of bravery have been cropping up all over Ukraine, as civilians are staying back to fight. Fathers have said goodbye to their families, while some men have also been forcibly asked to stay back.

Among them all is also an 80-year-old grandfather, who showed up to volunteer complete with a small bag carrying what he deemed were necessary supplies, like two T-shirts, an extra pair of pants, a toothbrush and sandwiches for lunch.

People are taking to social media to share peoples' stories and experiences out of Ukraine. Some are praising people’s bravery, and calling them heroes, others are insisting that in the 21st century there is no place for war and the West must do better to help the people of a now war torn Ukraine.
