The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested eleven people for allegedly running propaganda campaigns against "sensitive agencies" on social media platforms, Aaj News reported on Tuesday.

According to the details, FIA's anti-terrorism department and cyber crime wing conducted a joint operation in Faisalabad and Gujrat, making eight arrests. Three others have been taken into custody from Lahore, it added.

According to FIA, intelligence agencies had earlier provided a list of people involved in alleged propaganda against prominent individuals and state institutions on social media.

The agency added that it had received details of at least 50 individuals who were operating hundreds of fake social media accounts. The report further said that some of the accounts were being operated from abroad.

Earlier on Sunday, in a seemingly unrelated development, the home of Dr Arslan Khalid, recently ousted prime minister Imran Khan's focal person on digital media, was allegedly raided in Lahore by 11 unidentified men.

The raid was reported through PTI's official Twitter account.

"He has never abused anyone on social media and never attacked any institutions," the PTI tweeted as it requested the FIA to look into the matter.

The purported raid drew reactions from several senior PTI leaders, with former minister Asad Umar calling it "highly condemnable" and describing Dr Khalid as "an asset for the nation".
