iPhones’ prices shot up since January 2022 as the former PTI government imposed 17% tax on imported mobile phones costing $200 and above in the mini-budget. However, the price hike did not deter Karachi’s youth from purchasing the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the latest and the most expensive model of the Apple’s mobile phone.

Shoaib Hassan, a mobile shop owner in Karachi’s Saddar area, told Aaj News: “Most of the times I receive iPhone 13 Pro Max orders by young customers as they prefer cell phones that work faster for playing games and browsing.”

Hassan whose shop is located at Amma Tower Mobile Mall has sold two sets of the iPhone in less than 10 days of May.

Twenty-three-year-old Muhammad Rahim, a customer who intended to purchase the latest model of iPhone, believed that the performance of Apples’ cell phone is remarkable as well as it is a symbol of status in the society. “I feel proud when I show my iPhone 12 Pro to friends. They also show interest in having a look at my cell phone.”
