PTI’s Wasif Abbasi elected Punjab Assembly deputy speaker unopposed
Opposition boycott elections, with PPP lawmaker Ali Haider Gilani refusing to submit nomination papers
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Wasif Qayyum Abbasi was elected unopposed on Saturday the new deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly after the opposition parties boycotted the elections.
Abbasi was elected after his rival, PPP MPA Ali Haider Gilani, refused to submit his nomination papers. The deadline to hand in the documents was 5pm.
The position feel vacant after Dost Muhammad Mazari was ousted through a vote of no confidence a day earlier.
