All eyes on Pakistan’s budget for financial year 2022-23

Coalition govt expected to present over Rs9,500b worth of outlay

ISLAMABAD: More than Rs9,500 billion of Pakistan’s financial budget for the year 2022-23 would be presented by the coalition government on Friday (today) in the National Assembly, sources said, as the people seek relief amid the rising inflation and energy crisis.

“Our growth will be sustainable and inclusive. We should not face a balance of payments crisis again and again. We want inclusive growth; this is the mistake we have made again and again,” the Finance Minister said while addressing a press conference at the launching ceremony of the economic survey on Thursday.

The government has set a five per cent growth rate for the financial year 2022-23.

  • Government employees salary: 5% to 15% increase expected
  • Retired government employees salary: 5% to 10% increase expected

The opposition has skipped the lower house of parliament sessions however it is expected they might protest outside parliament against the budget. Former prime minister Imran Khan, who is now part of the opposition benches, on Thursday claimed that there would be no relief for the public in the financial outlay.
