KARACHI: Heavy rain, with thunder and lightning, is expected in Karachi today, as the monsoon spell continues.

The first monsoon spell hit the city on Monday. Rain has continued in different areas of Karachi all week.

According to the Met Department, the temperature in the city is 28°C while daytime temperatures are expected to range from 32°C to 34°C. The wind will blow at a speed of 25 km per hour during the day.

The city is still suffering from urban flooding caused by yesterday’s rain.

Yesterday (Friday), heavy rain hit different areas of the city including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Hassan Square, Bahadurabad, Jail Road, and Shahrah-e-Faisal.

Korangi Crossing and Causeway are closed for traffic, according to the traffic police spokesperson. As long as the rain continues, these roads will remain closed to avoid accidents.

The Super Highway Long Road from Kathore River was also closed in the morning due to heavy rain but has since been reopened.

Feeder lines were affected due to the rain. According to K-Electric, 150 of the 190 feeders were impacted. As soon as the staff got clearance, however, power was restored to these feeders and electricity continues to reach most parts of the city.

PPMC has instructed citizens to avoid fastening sacrificial animals to electricity towers and poles during the rain season to avoid any untoward incident.

Rain also hit Badin last night, causing flooding in the low-lying areas. Two people died as lightning struck two villages of Kadhan.
