LAHORE: About 7,922 policemen were busy in rescue and relief activities for flood-hit and rain-affected people besides shifting people to relief camps across the province.

Elaborating police operations, a spokesman of police department said the department had shifted 29 affected families of Rahim Yar Khan, 25 of Mandi Bahauddin and other 6,630 families of various districts in various relief camps throughout the province.

He explained that officials were evacuating flood-hit people to relief camps through boats, trolleys and other vehicles, adding that police have shifted about 5203 cattle’s to safer places while 3,493 mud bags have been provided to the local administration by the provincial police.

The spokesman said particularly in Gujranwala range, police have shifted 3,102 affecters, including 1904 cattle, to safe places, adding that 2,530 personnel of Punjab Traffic Police were performing duties to ensure flow of traffic in flood-hit areas of the province.

However, on the directions of Inspector General of police Punjab Mushtaq Sukhaira, Punjab police ambulances along with medical staff have been sent to affected areas to provide medical assistance to the victims.

Meanwhile, total 300 relief camps were set up at various governmental  schools, community centers, technical training institutions, factories and union councils offices in the province in which four camps were set up in Nankana Sahib, two in Gujranwala, 15 in Gujrat, 9 in Hafizabad, three in Mandi Bahauddin, 19 in Sialkot, 18 in Narowal, 14 in Jehlum, 12 in Sargodha, four in Khushab, four in Bhakkar, nine in Toba Tek Singh, 18 in Jhang, seven in Lodhran, 14 in Vehari, eight in Sahiwal, 12 in Okara, 33 in Muzaffargarh, 40 in Layyah, 19 in Bahawalpur, 16 in Bahawalnagar and 20 camps in Rahim Yar Khan.
