Spring flower show concludes

SUKKUR: Three day Spring Flower Show concluded at Shah Abdu Latif University (SALU), Khairpur on Thursday.

The show provided the residents of Khairpur and its adjoining areas an opportunity to have glimpses of charming colors and fragrance of the spring season.

Over 150 types of spring’s flowers were displayed. The flowers were placed in the forms of bed, pie and pyramid to convey different messages to attract the nature lovers.

Around 2,000 flowerning plants of more than 100 different varieties were also displayed.

Plants were exhibited on planters made of seashells, soda bottles, old cooking pots, tins, old building materials were used like old university furniture, wooden planks and broken tiles to create various segments such as a flower house.

A large number of local and foreign birds including parrots, sparrows, doves and hens attracted a large number of visitors, especially children.

Vice Chancellor (VC) SALU, Dr Parveen Shah in her address said that it was a healthy activity to promote horticulture among the nature lovers and such exhibitions were helpful in bringing people closer to the beauty of nature.

She said that there was a strong relation between plants and environment.

"Our environment can only stay clean and healthy if there are more plants", she added.

She was of the view that through such type of exhibitions the younger generation could learn about the importance of plants and environment and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Ornamental species such as Fuchsia magellanica, native to southern areas of South America, and orchids along with plants found favorable to produce bio-diesel fuel, for instance, jatropha and cassava were also on display at the show,

The residents of the areas especially students and women visited the university to see exquisite variety of foreign and local flowers and plants.
